Why Mauritius for a honeymoon
A honeymoon in Mauritius, beyond the hotel.
Mauritius is one of the most classic honeymoon destinations, and for good reason: lagoons, hotels designed for couples, and direct flights from Paris. You could spend ten days there without ever stepping outside your hotel gates.
That is one option, but it would be a shame. The island's interior, its mountains, plantations and markets are part of what makes a stay memorable. That is why I almost always recommend a car, at least for a few days.
I regularly organise stays in Mauritius, with flights, car hire and hotel. For a honeymoon, I always compare several hotels and several room categories before suggesting the right one.

When to go to Mauritius for your honeymoon?
Mauritius is in the southern hemisphere: the seasons are reversed. From May to December, the weather is drier and more pleasant. From January to March it is the southern summer, hot and humid, which is also cyclone season.
The southern winter, from June to September, is mild but windier on some coasts, and the sea is cooler. This is where the choice of coast matters: they do not have the same wind, the same lagoon or the same atmosphere.

Ten to twelve days, two stays
The format I suggest most often to newlyweds.
- A first coast: five nights to settle in, with beach, lagoon, and one or two outings inland.
- A day inland: mountains, plantations, viewpoints. This is what all-beach stays miss most.
- A second coast: four to five nights in a different atmosphere, with just one change of hotel over the whole stay.
These stages are a working draft, not a package. I always build the itinerary with you, ask you to approve it, then draw up the quote.

Do we need to hire a car in Mauritius?
I almost always recommend it, at least for a few days. It is the best way to discover the island's interior, something many travellers never do.
Can Mauritius be combined with another island?
It is possible if the length of the trip allows. I only suggest this option if it does not cut into your time to rest, which remains the whole point of a honeymoon.
